Today a friend and I braved the heat and the crowds at the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena. I love poking around the stalls and chatting with the vendors. On this trip I found some beautiful vintage ribbons that I can’t wait to find uses for. I’m smitten with the rich two-tone colors!
If you live in the Los Angeles area this is such a great place to score all sorts of vintage finds. The market takes place on the second Sunday of every month. Details can be found on the R.G. Canning website.
If you decide to make the trip here are some quick flea market tips:
Table of Contents
1. Go early!
The market opens at 9:00 am. There’s a special “preview” option available from 8:00 am – 9:00 am. Admission is $8 if you enter at 9:00, and $10 if you enter at 8:00. I like to take advantage of the extra hour before the crowds get too large and the sun gets too hot.
2. Bring Cash!
Veteran flea market shoppers probably know this, but most vendors prefer cash and many only accept cash. It’s also easier to haggle when you’re paying someone in cash instead of whipping out the credit card.
Plus, If you pay your entrance fee with a $10 bill they will give you a nice crisp $2 bill as change. Such a fun little bonus!
3. Plan for the weather!
Mornings in Pasadena can be chilly, but by noon the sun beats down on the asphalt where the vendors set up their stalls. There’s no shade between the long winding aisles of knick-knacks and it gets HOT.
Wear layers and bring a hat and sunblock to keep you protected. Packing a bottle of water is a good idea too.
